When Asantee first came in to join the family member, she was very skinny like a tweak. Whenever she was touched she was in pain. There was only bone and skin. Sitting on the floor was very painful for her.
My first attempt is to give her dry food (Royal Canine - German Shepherd) with cooked rice. She hardly touched it! Thinking that she was so skinny, her stomach is probably very small and I could only give her a small amount but three times a day. There was a point when I had to come back for lunch, while my mother was on vacation, and making sure she would finish her food. Because if I am not around to look at her and her food like a donkey, she won’t even touch it. Since she is so skinny, she can’t stand up too long. So she ends up collapsing her hind legs down and the rest of her body down. That’s when I have to seat crossed legged, her food bowl near me and hand feed her. She still would eat but she won’t continue on her own unless I hand feed her. Then when she is about to finish her food after praising her at every bite, she refuses to continue.
“Oh boy…” I said under my breath. Getting my hand nice and dirty getting the rice and dry food into a mushy ball form and force it in her mouth. Of course she hates it, but really is there really a choice? Sometimes she would close shut her jaws really hard that I end up bleeding around my fingers. Never I once scolded her about this action. Since my fingers also taste and smell of food, I don’t expect her to tell the difference between human and food. It was so painful after some few force feeding, that I couldn't keep going. I wrapped my hand in a towel to suck the blood and wash it off. I relatively heal very quickly that as soon I reach the office again, only the crust part is already formed. Its still very painful, but I’m still going to force feed her. After all, love can be painful after all right?. =)
